Larry N. Gwartney
210 Courthouse
Salmon, Idaho 83467
Larry N. Gwartney teaches English and speech at a high school in his hometown of Salmon, Idaho. Prior to returning home, he taught at three other high schools in Idaho and Montana in the past twenty years.
In the summers, Gwartney also works as a whitewater guide on the Main and Middle Forks of the Salmon river, presently leading expeditions for an outfitting company called Salmon River Lodge. Gwartney relies on his twenty-five years of river experience for much of his work including his first novel, Reflections in Satin and Jade, which is in search of a publisher. Gwartney writes in a variety of genres, including both rhymed and free verse poetry, short stories, and novels. He credits the inspiration for Silo Monkeys to an incident his father's hired hand relayed to him when he was eleven.
Gwartney enjoys hunting, fishing, rafting, and many other outdoor activities. He coached high school football and basketball for seventeen years, but gave up those endeavors to pursue his writing career goals.
Married once for twelve years, Gwartney has been divorced for nearly five. He is the father of a teenage son and a college-aged daughter.
